This fallow doe was hit just before dark on a cold, wild, windy evening with a 150grn projectile from a .308. While the shot was a good one just behind the shoulder the doe ran over 150m before collapsing.
Deer shot close the behind the shoulder near the heart can run quite a distance even though they are essentially dead on their feet. This is especially the case when the deer involved is already aware of the hunter.
The young GSP followed the deer to where it fell. In this case the deer would probably have been recovered without the dog involved as the deer ran out into the open country but it was nice to have her along.
